Nikki Davies MCSP MACP MHPC
Nikki qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham in 1992. After completing her Senior II rotation she started working within a large private clinic in Cork, Ireland. The experience gained there encouraged her to study full time for a further year in Perth, Western Australia where she completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy.
On returning to Ireland she opened her own private practice and it was during this time that she was also employed by the Irish Rugby Football Union as Physiotherapist for Munster RFC and the Combined Provinces Teams (Irish B). She was also responsible to the Irish Sports Council for screening elite, professional and Olympic athletes of many different disciplines.
Having taken the opportunity to sell her practice in Ireland she had the chance to return home to Wales where she established a small practice in Upper Bangor. Due to expansion more space was required and therefore the new practice was acquired.
Nikki until recently, has been actively involved in both an advisory and hands on capacity with the preparation of the Gogledd Cymru Rugby team towards their semi-professional status. Having worked for the Irish Sports Council with their screening programme for elite athletes she has a particular interest in the application of the preventative strategies employed, by applying the same principles of encouraging responsibility and education to her excellent manual therapy skills, to encourage patient participation and understanding in the relief and management of their problems.
Nikki specialises in the treatment of spinal pain, neuro-musculoskeletal problems and sports injuries. Having a special interest in the treatment of chronic pain problems, stimulated an interest in a holistic approach and consequently she has recently completed her training as a Counsellor, and hopes to complete an MA studying the interaction between body and mind - this being of great importance in the treatment of trauma and chronic pain.
It is Nikki's belief that the service delivery to elite sports people and the general public should be of a similar standard and this is the philosophy of her Clinic.
She feels strongly that treatment should be sought early and where possible encourages prevention as well as reactive treatments.
Nikki Davies provides a bi-lingual service.
Morag Bowie MCSP MHPC
Morag qualified at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 1980. Initially working within the NHS at Derby Royal Infirmary, she has worked in the private sector since 1982. As a Senior Physiotherapist Morag moved to London to work in a private hospital and to set up a sports injury clinic within such. Morag was also involved with Wasps Rugby Club for a short time.
An opportunity to work in Athens, Greece arose and she lived there for 3 years working in a domiciliary capacity but latterly in a Nautilus gym where she gained experience in weight training regimes.
On return to the UK, Morag was employed by an independent Fitness Company who were contracted by major business corporations to provide on site Fitness facilities with individual assessment and training programs for the staff as well as onsite physiotherapy services.
During this period Morag qualified as Fitness Instructor. With the close proximity of the River Thames, Morag became involved with Marlow Rowing Club and through this began to work with the Great Britain Rowing Team, travelling to International Regattas providing acute injury support but also development with the other physiotherapists of injury preventative programmes. This profile brought the appointment of the Senior Physiotherapist at the British Olympic Medical Centre from 1994 to 2000, where all Elite level athletes of all Olympic sports could source physiotherapy, Sports Doctors and Physiological Testing. She was a Team Physiotherapist at both the Atlanta and Sydney Games. During this time she became a qualified Sports Therapy Masseuse and also undertook training to become licenced to treat musculoskeletal problems with Acupuncture.
Due to a young family's responsibilities the International travel ceased and Morag returned to Private Practice.
Her vast experience in musculoskeletal systems from elite athletes to the non exercising population has given a depth of understanding and belief in the holistic management. The acute injury often is the end result of chronic imbalance and this belief sits well with the Arfon clinics ethos.
Update January 2012
Morag is very proud to announce that she has been offered a role as a L.O.C.O.G (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) physiotherapist for both the Olympic and Para Olympic Games 2012. She will be undertaking the initial Olympic orientation training soon with more specific role training later this Spring.
